The story of a girl who travels, embraces life… And here, as comfortable and natural on the sidewalks of an international cosmopolitan city as on a polo field in Jaipur ; a boy in a raw cotton tuxedo worn with Brown velvet shorts, a printed floral cloth jacket, or a flat pleated jersey draped bomber t-shirt and cavalier trousers.
Adding flavour to the overall look, the story is perfected by the sublime Philip Treacy custom designed vegetable fibre turbans and hats hinting at the spirit of colonial India. An imaginary landscape between the past and the present. Grounded luxury, weaving together spirituality and fantasy. Modern couture, generating a clash between the raw and refined.
From his golden triangle voyage to India, starting from Delhi and going through Agra and Rajasthan, Didit Hediprasetyo has returned with very personal snapshots, gathering together the self discoveries and spiritual journeys of western travellers, through meditation and fantasy, the memory of colonial days, polo elephants, the melting pot of the 1960s elegance, and the daily reality of crowded open-air markets. For Hediprasetyo, it is of the utmost importance to weave total expression of freedom created by Couture into the rituals of daily life.
Reformation and Spring & Clifton have collaborated for Resort 2012 with a collection consisting of unique knitwear and leather mixed with eye-catching baja prints ranging from $85 to under $300. Magical things happen in Montauk, and while on vacation there last summer, designers Michelle Zacks (of Spring & Clifton) and Yael Aflalo (of Reformation) got inspired to collaborate on a Resort line to launch when everyone is sick of their winter wardrobes. Michelle was drawn to a giant baja jacket at a local surf shop because of the amazing texture, pattern and colors. She knew Yael could do what she does best, and find a way to reinvent the baja into something unexpectedly chic.
The collection is a limited edition of 10 pieces ranging from baja/ leather combos and signature reworked knits and tees. The full line will be available for purchase in both Reformation stores and through the brand’s ecommerce site. Anything Mayan is trending right now so a haute inspired piece is a MUST for Spring/Summer 2012. the best part of it all is that the collection will be hitting stores this week!

Belgium designer Walter Van Beirendonck, presented a show consisting of masked models outfitted in extremely vivid and unconventional suits for his Paris fashion Week Autunm 2012.2013 runway show. Walter took his signature concept of playful colors t to the next level with the Friday the 13th masks. While posting this blog entry, all I could hear is the chilling “choo choo choo” from the actual movie just before someone is slain. Although we don’t expect to see President Barak Obama campaigning in one of these suits, the conservative yet edgy silhouettes give off a little bit of Billy Badass. It is this vey creativity that defines each designer and gives them the stamp of approval for their remarkable works of art delivered each and every season. leave the yawning for nap time, already!

Although politics, tax breaks, ending the war, and more U.S. manufacturing were the main topics of discussion during last night’s State of the Union Address, so was Michelle Obama’s cobalt blue dress from Barbara Tfank’s Resort 2012 collection. Michelle Obama, better known as Michelle O, has yet to disappoint us with her sense of style. She could even wear a turban, Mc Hammer pants paired with an Oscar de la Renta blazer and give political chic new meaning. As the primary’s wind down and as we move into official election season, many fashionistas will look forward to what Michelle Obama will be wearing just as much as they will want to know who will win the next seat in the White House.
